OUTCOME
Close to 4,413 men died in Operation Overlord.
1,465 Americans, 1,000 British, and 340 Candians.
The U.S. and our Allied powers won over the Nazi's and their Allies such as Japan.

THE BEACHES INCLUDED. . .
HOME, OMAHA, UTAH, GOLD, JUNO, AND SWORD.

The United Kingdom, Canada, Austqralia, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France,
Greece, the Netherlands, New Zealand,Norway, and Poland

WHEN
D-Day or Operation Overlord took place on
Tuesday June 6, 1944.

WHERE?
The beaches of Normandy, France.
The names of the beaches were Home, Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno, and sword.

WHY?
An attempt to gain a foothold in Europe, to drive out Hitler.

HOW?
We moved toward Russia to trap the nazi troups inbetween.
We used 156,000 troops, Naval forces of 6,939 vessels,
and 2,395 aircraft in the initial D-day.

WHAT WOULD HAVE MADE THE OUTCOME DIFFERENT?
If the Germans would have gotten through in the
Battle of the Bulge they would have had a much better
change at winning D-Day.

MOST INTERESTING FACTS.
1. D-Day was originally set for June 5 but had to be postponed for 24 hours because of bad weather.
2. Hitler was asleep when word of the invasion arrived. No one dared wake him
and it’s said vital time was lost insending reinforcements.
3. Allied troops faced formidable defences as part of Hitler’s Atlantic Wall,
which had been built all along the coast using 100,000 workers,
