How many digital professionals do you know whose website has been singled out by Bill Gates as the 'best example in the world'?

SALFORD

2001 - 2007
In 2007 the website I was managing for Salford City Council (2001-07) was named 'local authority website of the year' in the Good Communications Awards. Gerry McGovern, the web usability guru, subsequently wrote a piece about me and the website.

BETTER CONNECTED

I am, since 2003, a member of the team that conducts an annual quality assessment of UK local authority websites, 'Better connected' for Socitm Insight.

Our reviews examine the customer focus and state of development, testing typical user journeys and making recommendations to aid improvement planning.

During my time at Salford City Council the website was given Socitm's top rating for three consecutive years.

Since leaving Salford at the end of 2007 I have been freelancing with Socitm, providing ad hoc consultancy services to councils or undertaking interim appointments and presenting at Socitm events.

helping New Forest residents get online

In late 2012 I established the New Forest's first social media surgery to promote digital inclusion and support SMEs such as B&B owners.

In 2013, whilst based in Sheffield for six months, I was guest 'surgeon' at the Salford equivalent surgery which is hosted by BBC Salford at MediaCityUK.

SOCIAL CUSTOMER SERVICE

In April 2014 Sheffield City Council launched social customer service using Twitter: @SCC_HELP

This followed a recommendation to do so by me whilst undertaking a channel shift interim role there in 2013. I ran a high profile week-long trial during National Customer Service Week in October.

NETWORKED,

RECOMMENDED & RECOGNISED
I'm well connected in local and central government and other sectors too.

In the context of digital and user experience there's not much I haven't encountered and resolved first hand, or know of one or instances where others can assist or recommend a contact.

I believe my approach to user experience is successful because I can see both organisational and customer facets of an project, and usually champion the user/customer perspective because actually that's what really matters, not the technology.

But don't take my word for it! There are recommendations from former colleagues or customers on my Linked In profile plus details of other recognition received during my career in digital to date.
