  • Life expectancy: 48
  • Child mortality: 141/1000

POVERTY AND HEALTHCARE

  • Half of all Zambian children are stunted.
  • Malaria is a leading killer in Zambia, there were 3 million cases last year.
  • 15 percent of children under 5 are underweight.
  • There were only 650 doctors in the whole country of Zambia last year.
  • 1 of every 8 adults in Zambia has HIV or AIDS.

FOOD AND DAILY LIFE

  • There are no washing machines, so all clothes are washed by hand.
  • Beer is the most popular alcoholic drink in Zambia.
  • Kids have to make their own toys.
  • Insects are a very popular food in Zambia, there's a termite feast.
  • More than 1/3 of Zambians live in urban areas.

PEOPLE AND CULTURE

  • Religion is very important to Zambians.
  • The national football (soccer) team is the copper bullets.
  • In 1993 sadly 18 of the copper bullets died in a plane crash.
  • A woman in the SOS headquarters claims to have 52 husbands.
  • Christianity is the main religion in Zambia.

  • There are many carnivorous plants such as the Drosera.
  • The African wild dog is an endangered species in Zambia.
  • The shoebill stork is a very interesting animal found only in Zambia.
  • Some popular animals are wildebeests, zebra, buffalo, and tsessebe.
  • There are over 750 species of birds in Zambia.

CLIMATE AND AGRICULTURE

  • October is the hottest month, and July is the coldest.
  • October can be as warm as 45 Celsius (113 Fahrenheit).
  • Orange maize is grow. By most farmers of it high dose of vitamin A.
  • The rainy season is December to April.
  • The cool and hot dry seasons are in May to August and September to November.

EDUCATION AND JOBS

  • They have 7 years of elementary school and 5 years of middle/high school.
  • Most jobs are for miners and farmers.
  • Fishing is a very popular jobs in the rural areas with flowing water or lakes.
  • Zambia's most important partner is China.
  • Zambia has spent a lot of money on education since their independence in 1964.
