CASE
- This is John Doe. He's a 31 yr old white male.
- Ht. 5'10in, Wt. 202lbs,B/P 132/84.
- He came to Franklin's Hospital complaining of chest pain,
- headaches, and nausea. No known family history.
- Dr. Gentry diagnosed Mr. Doe with acid reflux.
This medication is a combination of omeprazole & sodium bicarbonate. It is used to treat certain stomach & esophagus problems (such as acid reflux, ulcers, etc). It is also used to prevent stomach bleeding in very ill patients. Omeprazole works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes.
ZEGERID ORAL IS USED TO TREAT THE FOLLOWING:
- Heartburn
- Ulcer of the Duodenum
- Stomach ulcers
- Acid Reflux
- Inflammation of the Esophagus with Erosion
SIDE EFFECTS
- Headache, Abdominal pain, Dizziness, Weakness, Rash,
- Swelling of the hands/feet, Irregular heartbeat, Itching,
- Persistent muscle spasms, Seizures, Sudden weight gain/loss,
- Confusion, Irritability, Memory problems, Vomiting,
- Change in amount of urine,Persistent diarrhea, Fever.
Do not use if you have a medical history of high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, swelling/ edema, kidney failure, liver disease, low calcium or low potassium levels, metabolic imbalance
Some products that may interact with this drug include: Cilostazol, Clopidogrel, Methotrexate, Rifampin, St. John's wort, Warfarin.

Patient directions: empty 1 packet into a small cup containing 1-2 tablespoons of water. Do not use other liquids & foods. Stir well & drink immediately. Refill cup with water & drink.
