For this project we will use positive and negative space to hold the viewer's attention. Typically black space feels heavier and dominates as positive space. White space feels empty and is seen as negative space.

We can see both images but the shading-- form, causes us to see the vase as positive and white as negative area.

Texture and pattern can become a type of form.

ZENTANGLE

ASSIGNEMENT

• You are going to use zentangles to control positive and negative space in your artwork.

PROCEDURE

• Choose animal/object
• Draw on black paper and cut out
• Glue black cutout on white paper
• Use thin black sharpie to fill in positive space with pattern and texture.
