OVERARCHING QUESTIONS
God required his people to be repentant and turn to him.
God wants the same of us today.
God expects us to place our faith in him and trust him.
"...before the day of the LORD's wrath comes upon you,
seek the LORD,... you who does what he commands"(Ch.2 v.2-3)
6.
3 Points of Prophecy
1. Zepheniah is rooted in the Old Testament commands to no have no other Gods
2. Zephaniah points to the future of Earth when God will judge all people
and destroy the Earth
3. This book is concerned with the problems taking place at the time, mostly the
worship of other Gods and a lack of faith in God.
7.
Assyria
Assyria was a major power at the time of this book(640BC)
Zephaniah prophesied the destruction of many nations, including Assyria.
Soon after Zephaniah was written, Assyria collapsed in about 612BC
Nineveh, the capitol of Assyria, was destroyed during the collapse.
