Zero Conditional

What is?

  • These are formed from two clauses: the independent (main clause) and the dependent (dependent or if clause).

What is it for?

  • The "zero conditional" is used when the time we are referring to is now or always and the situation is real and possible.

Structure

  • The structure of the conditional zero. Conditionals are sentences made up of two phrases.

Examples:

  • If you heat water to 100 degrees, it boils. (Si calientas agua a 100 grados, hierve)
  • If public transport is efficient, people stop using their cars. (Si el transporte público es eficiente, la gente deja de usar sus autos)
  • Plants die if they don’t get enough water. (Las plantas mueren si obtienen suficiente agua)
