PRESENTATION OUTLINE

IN THE BEGINNING

  • The world was dark with no humans or animals.
  • There was one very large seed.
  • The seed sank into the ground and long reeds strated to grow.
  • The reads were called "Uthlanga" which means the source of all things.
  • Slowly one reed grew into a man, his name was Unkulunkulu.

UNKULUNKULU

  • He wondered the earth.
  • He created mountains, streams, rivers, etc.
  • Slowly more reeds started to grow and there were more humans.
  • Unkulunkulu taught the humans.

HE TAUGHT THEM HOW TO...

  • Hunt
  • Make fire
  • Make clothing
  • Prepare corn

ANIMALS

HE GAVE ALL THE ANIMALS THEIR NAMES

Unkulunkulu sent a chameleon, to message the world saying that his people will never die.

Unkulunkulu got impatient, for the chameleon was going so slow. So he sent a lizard saying that death was on it's way.

The lizard overtook the chameleon and arrived at the village first saying death was on it's way.

Death has been in the world ever since.

  • A supreme being appears in almost every myth to trigger the events...
  • ...that create the world.
  • May begin with the theme of birth.
  • Sin is represented by darkness or fire.
