Roman warfare

"The Roman military was the most successful and powerful in history, dominating the Western world for over a thousand years. The size, strength and organization of their infantry force wouldn’t be equaled again for another thousand years. The Romans believed themselves to be descendents of Mars, literally the sons of the war god. They were a proud and uncompromising people who above all else excelled at the art of warfare."

"The Roman army left its mark wherever it went, creating depositories, roads, and bases. Including men from the age of 16 to 60, it was a chanel for the Romanisation of conquered lands and one of the main carriers of foreign cultural influence back on Rome itself."

Aztec warfare

When the Aztecs decided to conquer a particular city, they would send a leader from Tenochtitlan to offer the city protection and keep them safe. They pointed out the advantages of being able to trade with their Empire.

Mayan warfare

Archaeologists for a long time believed the ancient Maya to be gentle and peaceful people. Maya warfare was bloody and irresolvable, because limitations of food supply and transportation made it impossible for any Mayan kingdom to unite the whole region with an empire. The archaeological record shows that wars became more intense and frequent toward the time of the collapse.
