NATURE VS NURTURE

By: Sydney and Khia

NATURE VS NURTURE

  • Nature versus nurture. The nature versus nurture debate involves whether human behaviour is determined by the environment, either prenatal or during a person's life, or by a person's genes. Nature is what we think of as pre-wiring and is influenced by genetic inheritance and other biological factors.

HOW IT HAS INFLUENCED HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

  • Nature refers to the biological factors in a human. Essentially, it effects the genetic or hereditary makeup of an individual. These are the genes that we are born with that cannot be altered with conditioning. Traits such as hair color and type, eye color, height, and physical makeup forms a part of what is called "nature". Disorders and diseases that are inherited genetically also forms nature.

WHY WE AGREE WITH NATURE

  • In the case study it proves to us that nature has more influence than nurture.
  • Nature is more about who you are rather than how you are brought up. In the study, they tried to raise him differently so he later ended up taking his own life. Therefore, we agree that nature is far better than nurture

DAVID REIMER

  • David Reimer was born with a twin brother. During circumcision a mishap occurred which caused extreme damage to the young boy. In order to save him his parents made the decision to change him into a girl. They would have to raise him like a normal little girl and not tell him the truth. Dr. Money decided to make an experiment out of it. He routinely checked up on the family to see how “Brenda” was doing.

  • Eventually when “Brenda” turned 14 they her the truth about her gender. She later decided to transfer back into a boy. But at age 30 “Brenda” who is know “David” decided to tragically end her life.

ARGUMENT #1

  • The coding of genes in each cell in us humans determine the different traits that we have, more dominantly on the physical attributes like eye color, hair color, ear size, height, and other traits.

ARGUMENT #2

  • Since nature is how you are born, it is who you are and who you will become. It’s more difficult to change that then to change how you are raised.

ARGUMENT #3

  • Nurture is more about who you are being raised by which has a greater influence on you. You will become more like them since they are raising you however they want. You can’t be your own person.

ARGUMENT #4

  • Nature is who God made you and how he wanted you to be. To try and change that would be wrong. He created you how he wanted you to be and for a purpose of his own.

ARGUMENT #5

  • Nurture is the environment you are brought up in and will determine how you will behave and act in your future. It’s the fundamental building blocks of your life.
