THE STORY OF ELIJAH

ELIJAH

  • Elijah was a Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead.
  • He was first mentioned in 1 Kings 17:1

PREDICTING THE DROUGHT

  • Elijah told King Ahab that there was going to be a drought in the land for three years.
  • The The Lord told Elojah to go to the brook and stay there and that the ravens would feed him.
  • And the word of The Lord was fulfilled and the brook that Elojah was staying at dried up
  • because of the drought.

THE WIDOW ZAREPATH

  • Then The Lord said to Elijah go to Zarepath and stay there for I have told her to feed you.
  • Then when Elijah got there Zarepath told Elijah that they olny had a handful of flour
  • and a little oil, my son and I are going to eat it and die.
  • Then Elijah made it so that the handful of flour and little oil would never run out until God sent rain on the earth.
  • Then Elijah stayed in her house for many days and the food never ran out.

ELIJAH RAISES THE WIDOWS SON

  • Then the widows son fell ill and died.
  • Then the widow said to Elijah "Why have you done this to me!"
  • So Elijah took the son up to the upper room and parued and raised him from the dead.

PROPHETS OF BAAL DEFEATED

  • So Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal and said lay two offerings each with a bull.
  • And they were to pray to their god and Elijah to his and see which one would burn the offering.
  • So the prophets of Baal prayed and sang and cut themselves trying to get Baal to set fire to the offering.
  • And then Elijah prayed to his God and The Lord set fire to this offering and burnt it until there was nothing else left.

THE LORD APPEARS TO ELIJAH

  • When Elijah was lodging in a cave hiding from Jezebel the Lord spoke to him.
  • He asked Elijah what he was doing there. Elijah said that he was jealous for the Lord.
  • The the Lord told Elojah to go up on the mountain and Elijah did.
  • When he got up there and a great strong wind tore the mountain and broke the rocks into pieces.
  • and the Lord wasn't in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake and the Lord wasn't in it.

CONTINUED

  • The after the earthquake there was a fire and the Lord wasn't in the fire.
  • And after the fire there was the sound of a low whisper and the Lord was in the whisper.
  • And the Lord said got back to Damascus and anoint Hazael king over Syria.
  • And Jehu shall be anointed king over Israel.

THE CALL OF ELISHA

  • So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen in front of him, and he was with the twelfth. Elijah passed by him and cast his cloak upon him.
  • And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, “Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?”
  • Then he made a sacrifice and then went after Elijah and assisted him.

THE LORD CONDEMNS AHAB

  • The Lord came to Elijah and tole him to go meet Ahab.
  • Some Elijah went to him and told him that he would cut off every male from him.
  • He also tole hime that Jezebel would be eaten by dogs until there was nothing left.
  • Anyone belonging to Ahab who dies in the city the dogs shall eat.
  • Anyone who dies in the open country the birds shall eat.

ELIJAH DENOUNCES AHAZIAH

  • Ahaziah fell ill and was about to die so he told his servants to go inquire of Baal-zebub.
  • Then the Lord told Elijah to go to the servants and tell him that because he didn't pray that he would never recover.
  • The the king heard of this and sent a captain of fifty with his men and they came to Elijah and The Lord struck them down.
  • Then he sent another fifty and his men and the Lord struck them down again.
  • So the ling sent another and the captain came to him and fell at his feet amd begged for mercy on him and his men.

CONTINUED

  • So Elijah took mercy on him and his men and went down with them.
  • Then Elojah said to the king that he would surely die.
  • So the word of the Lord was fulfilled and he died.

ELIJAH TAKEN UP

  • And Elijah told Elisha that it was his time to be taken up.
  • And Elisha stayed with Elijah the whole time.
  • The chariots and fire separated them and Elijah was taken up to heaven.
