The novel Hatchet was written in 1987 by Gary Paulsen. I would say that this novel would fall into the genre of Realistic fiction because it is not a true story but it is possible that it could be real.

In this novel there is truly only one character. This is because the young boy is all alone in the Canadian woods trying to survive.

The main character Brian is on a very small plane with just him and a pilot. Brian is on his way to see his dad who lives in Canada. The plane goes down and Brian must do what ever he can to stay alive. This novel takes place in the wilderness of Canada.
