• A popular shot is reflection shot of faces or objects and dutch tilts or irregular tilt shots.

• the location that the film is set are usually everyday to make whats happening to seam even more realistic.
• The disruption of the movie (Todorov's theory) usually takes place in a dodgy looking town side.

• Film noir likes to use low key lighting to create shadows and mystery, very commonly used with the shadows of venetian blondes as a reflection on a person.
• High key lighting gives a high contrast shots which could be used as a end cliffhanger or suspense.

• film noir usually involves characters like princess, hero, helper, false hero, villain.
• hero and the princess are the most commonly used ones.

• A lot of non-diegetic sound.
• Jazz music, heavy breathing, usage of peacefulness and silence, silent noise, usually discordant and grating music, voice overs and sound effect that would suggest busy cities.

• Often uses non-lineal, could start at the end or use a lot of flash backs.
• Can use jump cuts and juxtaposition.
• Often shot day for night using filters a cheeper way.
