PRESENTATION OUTLINE
The Journey To California
Today we are leaving the exiting town of Independence, Missouri for California. We will surely miss our faithful home and the safety of our shelter. We have packed our wagons, but I have a feeling we are not prepared. I know many will not survive but we are strong and hopeful.
We are in a prairie now. Surrounded by prairie dogs and vegetation. The oxen are being fed well. The fields of flowers are keeping the children busy while we travel west. I have an uneasy feeling in my stomach because of the amount of supplies. We met friendly Indians and traded with them.
We are now by the clear and blue river getting water and hunting. While we were there a rainstorm happened. We stayed inside for the night to avoid getting wet.
We have crossed the river and are now entering the forty mile desert. It looks dreadful and terribly dry. Imagine how it would feel. The oxen will get tired throughout he journey, so we have to carry extra water. It will add on pounds which will make the wagons heavier.
We are about halfway through the forty mile desert, and we are running out of water swiftly. It is as hot as ever and not a living thing can be seen. I feel it will be the worst part of the journey and it will drain our supplies.
Now we have to cross the wretched mountains. We are already freezing and running out of food. Though we are very tired and discouraged, we simply have to try to get passed the summit of the Sierra Nevada.
We made it past the mountains! We are in California and starting to build! We are in our new home! It is a wonderful day and we are happy beyond compare
