  • The woodland Indians were hunter-gatherers, they depended on natural resources for their basic needs.
  • The Catawba are known among themselves as "people of the river". They first encountered white settlers of the Virginia and Carolina colonies who sought fur and other Indian trade goods.
  • Smallpox was the reason for the decrease in the Catawba population.

Europeans

  • Europeans went to America looking for the 3 g's (God, Gold, and Glory).
  • They also went to America because Europe was getting "too crowded", You could also have a new start there by becoming a land owner overnight by a royal grant.
  • Europeans had many accomplishments 1) exchanged goods and ideas 2) improved navigational tools and ships 3) claimed territories.

Africans (1)

  • During the early 1800's the majority of Africans in America were enslaved.
  • Some had escaped enslavement, while others had purchased their freedom by the plantation owners.
  • Luckily, some were never indentured or enslaved.

Africans (2)

  • The transatlantic slave trade was the biggest deporatation in history and a determining factor in the world economy of the 18th century.
  • Millions of Africans were torn from their homes.
  • After they were torn apart from their homes, they were deported to America and sold as slaves.

Africans (3)

  • A group of 20 slaves, pre-planned their rebellion for this day. Stopping at fire arm shops, they killed the owner and supplied with guns.
  • The band of rebels hit a series of businesses and homes, recruiting more slaves and killing the masters and their families.
  • This event was known as the Stono Rebellion.

economy

  • South Carolina gets their money from agricultural purposes.
  • Most people relied on the selling of rice and indigo.
  • South Carolina also practiced mercantilism, to sell more than the country bought.

Government (1)

  • Royal government has one ruler that makes all the rules and carries out all the orders.
  • Royal colonies were ruled by a king.
  • In a proprietary colony, one person or an elite group, owned by the colony controlled all the actions and the government.

Government (2)

  • The Regulator Movement was organized by the back country settlers to restore law and order and establish local government.
  • It lasted from 1765 to 1771 in which citizens rose up against colonial officials.
  • It was by citizens who though royal government officials were charging them excessive fee's, falsifying records, and other mistreatment .
