OLAUDAH EQIUANO

HIS BACKROUND

• Equiano was born to a west African tribe that is now in present day Nigeria
• He had many brothers and sisters
• And was a slave who bought his freedom
• He only lived to be fifty two years old, dying in 1797
• His life was full and prosperous

THE FACTS

• When he was 11 years old he and his sister were taken aboard a slave ship
• They were separated when he was out on a infamous slave ship
• Equiano was bought by a British military officer and served in war
• Then was bought again by a Quaker merchant
• He managed the merchants business

THE FACTS CONT.

• He bought his own freedom in 1766
• As a free man he worked as a sailor, musician and barber
• He was married to an English woman in 1792
• His autobiography was published in 1789
• It is one of the most famous black autobiographies of time

MY VEIW

• He was a very young man with some very tough luck
• But with the right attitude he made the most of it
• And became one is the most successful blacks of his time
