WHO CALLED THE COUNCIL?

WHAT POLITICAL FACTORS INFLUENCED THIS COUNCIL?

  • Theodosius wanted to further unify the entire empire and decided to convene a church council to resolve matters of faith and discipline

WHAT THEOLOGICAL FACTORS DID THIS COUNCIL DEAL WITH

  • The divinity of the Holy Trinity
  • The Heresy Arianism
  • To confirm the Nicene Creed

WHAT DECISIONS DID THE COUNCIL MAKE?

  • Promoted what became known to the church as the Nicene Creed; it also declared finally the Trinitarian doctrine of the equality of the Holy Spirit with the Father and the Son.

WHAT WAS THE OUTCOME OF THIS DECISIONS?

  • By the end of the 4th century, the Emperor Theodosius "issued a decree that the doctrine of the Trinity was to be the offical state religion and that all subjects shall adhere to it"

HOW HAS THIS HERESY SURFACED THROUGHT HISTORY?

  • This heresy did not surface much in history past the 5th century
  • There have been heresies and religions who have had some of the same beliefs but this particular heresy did not manage to make it to the 21st century.
