PRESENTATION OUTLINE

SHOULD MARS BE COLONIZED

MARS

  • Mars is the focus of much scientific study about possible human colonization. Mars' surface conditions and past presence of water make it arguably the most hospitable planet in the Solar System besides Earth. Mars requires less energy per unit mass to reach from Earth than any planet, except Venus.(Wikipedia)

ARGUMENTS FOR COLONIZING MARS

  • Eventually there will be another mass extinction event, human caused or not. We must colonize Mars to mitigate existential threats to humanity as a species.(Wikiversity)

ARGUMENTS FOR COLONIZING MARS

  • Colonizing Mars could bring Earth many, many resources.
  • We would be fulfilling our destiny.(geneticliteracyproject)

ARGUMENTS AGAINST COLONIZING MARS

  • Why should we value, in and of itself, the continued existence of the human species, if neither those of us who stay on Earth nor our descendants will survive such an event(geneticliteracyproject)

ARGUMENTS AGAINST COLONIZING MARS

  • We have plenty of resources here. We don't need more resources, only more wisdom in using them. Even if we don't need more resources, having more resources is always better.(Foresight.org)

ARGUMENTS AGAINST COLONIZE MARS

  • The atmosphere on Mars has about 95% carbon dioxide, which would make it impossible for humans to breathe. Mars is also much colder than Earth. This is mostly because the Red Planet is farther away from the sun than Earth. NASA’s Viking mission, which landed on Mars in 1976, recorded average temperatures of –81 ºF, which is colder than either the North or South poles here on Earth. If exposed to Mars’s temperatures, plants, humans, and other living beings would freeze.(Wikipedia)

MY OPINION ON THIS SUBJECT

  • My opinion on this subject is All tough it sounds like a great idea to colonize another planet,I think it will cost too much money, and we should focus on our own planet before trying to leave for another
