Neonatology is the medical specialty of taking care of newborn babies, sick babies, and premature babies
"Neonatologist" is a fancy term for baby Doctor
These doctors work with pregnant mothers who's baby has a problem of some kind. They can try to fix some things before birth. After birth these babies are taken to the NICU.
To be a successful neonatologist you must be...
Versatile when it comes to who you work with. Obstricians, nurses, surgeons, and other medical staff relations are crucial for success.
Good leadership skills. Neonatologists must be able to take initiative and lead the other staff in a solid action plan.
The ability to work under high-pressure and in stressful situations.
Empathetic. Without empathy a career in this field would be very difficult to achieve.
WHAT EDUCATION WOULD YOU NEED?
High school - 4 years
College degree - usually 4 years
Medical school - 4 years
Pediatric internship and residency - 3 years.
Neonatology fellowship - 3 years
