• The westward expansion was when many emigrants moved west to find land.
• Historians have estimated at least 500,000 emigrants used these three trails from 1843–1869
• The poem explains how fog moves into town effects everyone & then moves on.
• The poem ties into  history and how the expansion help many towns.

• But there big events that affected history i there own way
• These two poems have the same tone. there both sad & depressed.
• They both talk about how life was hard to many people.
• How times changed and they made big impacts on our towns today.
