One misunderstanding most Christians have about Messianics

Published on Jan 10, 2017

Through my personal experiences with fellow Christians, I have noticed a misunderstanding about Messianics. And I'm not so sure that this misunderstanding is innocently derived in most.

I don't know the reasons for the misunderstanding, but I do know that we like to be right. And nothing supports our "rightness" like being able to point our finger at "the wrong."

I am defining Messianics as people who worship and live out a Hebraic expression of the faith in Jesus/Yeshua. I can further define in subsequent posts.

What do you think of Messianics? What do you think of the word Jew?

An exercise for operation splinter sweep. Think of a people group that you normally would not consider yourself as being a member. Black? Mexican? Muslim? Polish? Jew?

Now simply say these words out loud. "I am a ______." Hear the words out loud and ask yourself how that felt.

My point is that we often speak of other people groups with (at least) a slight bit of disdain.

And when we do that, we tend to de-legitimize much about that culture. We often speak of their customs and even their beliefs as backward, "off," or unneeded.

That's how many Christians have been conditioned to believe (and react) to the concept of a Messianic Jewish believer. Distaste, at least. Disdain, in some cases.

I recently met a pastor who seemed a bit shocked by the fellowship that I keep.

Most Christians I have spoken with believe that Messianics hold a doctrine wherein a man is saved by works and not by grace through faith.

I have never met a Messianic Jew who believed that doctrine.

Now, I'm past trying to convince others of my doctrine.

Who needs that kind of stress?

Maybe Messianics are your broccoli.

Would it shock you that all the disciples of Jesus and Paul were Messianic Jews? They believed in salvation by grace through faith.

Would it shock you that not all people who claim to be Christians believe that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus?

Would it shock you that people like Moses, Abraham, David, and Mother Mary were saved by grace through faith in Jesus?

This is just one myth or misunderstanding about Messianics. For more on this Hebraic expression of faith in the Messiah: First Fruits of Zion, Wild Branch Ministry, Shoreshim Ministries.
