What is a phylum cniadria? They range from jellyfish, hydra, sea anemones and corals and many more. They also have no "true" organs. But they have reached a tissue level of organization, in which alike cells are in groups. They also have two basic body forms polyp and medusae. Polyp: are sessile and normally have a tube like body they may be alone or in groups. Medusae: they are free swimming, usually have an umbrella type shape, mouth is normally on the concave side of the body. And tentacles from the side of the body.
How do they survive? Polyp: they are stuck where they landed and they just filter through water and extract nutrients and oxygen that they need. Medusae: they are free flowing and they are able to do more than a polyp for food.
Scientific name:Porifera rank: phylum Cniadria:comes from the Greek word "cndos" which means stinging nettle. This contains thousands of species worldwide. What does all of that mean? I'm not quite sure it's just the "technically" correct scientific name for them.
How do we get so many of these things? Reproduction in polyps is normally by asexual budding or sexual formation of gametes (also In medusae, and some polyps). Cnidarian individuals may be monoecious or dioecious. The result of sexual reproduction is a little larva thing which is free-swimming and can move where ever, and this is the ONLY time they will EVER move on their own.
I really don't think that they serve much of a purpose to us humans besides the idea of the household sponge, but they serve many purposes to other animals and other organisms (sponging)
