As an extension to my reflection on good teaching, I have provided a Haiku Deck to highlight some key ideas from a TEDx Talk titled The Art (& Science) of Great Teaching by educator Sam Chaltain. Sam’s talk digs more deeply into the identity of teachers today by pushing at the definition of freedom as it pertains to the American classroom. He reasons how our nation’s dual allegiance to capitalism and democracy, and the centering of capitalism in our education system, creates discomfort and discord when defining good teaching in today’s society, while making some suggestions for mapping future change.
